AG launches NY Open Government website

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman launches a new website aimed at helping voters, media, and government watchdogs hold state government accountable.

“New York Open Government” is an expansion of the office’s “Project Sunlight” website.

Schneiderman says the new website is more user friendly and will allow the public to find information on campaign contributions, lobbying and state contracts.

Leaders say it is not only easy to navigate but everything is all in one place.

Bill Mahoney of the New York Public Interest Research Group said, “If you’re interested to see how a lobbyist or an interest group is seeking to influence state government, in the past you had to go to either the Board of Elections website…but this upgrades the existing project to make it even more user friendly. People can go to one website and find the information quickly.”

The original website was launched back in 2007.
