New York state Senate leader Dean Skelos says population losses show redistricting could eliminate one congressional seat in western New York and another in New York City.
Skelos tells the Buffalo News that although all options are still open, those are the two areas where population loss alone puts seats in jeopardy.
Skelos emphasizes no decision has been made and many factors will be considered.
New York state’s slow population growth compared to other states will mean two fewer congressional seats, which will go to faster growing and bigger states.
State officials expect one seat now held by a Republican upstate and another held by a downstate Democrat will be cut.
The state Legislature’s redistricting plan for congressional seats is expected to be released within weeks.

Coming in from the darkness, and switching gears to the New York’s “playing field” where is Skelos’ 63rd Senate going to be placed?
The only information was a promise from Skelos that the seat would not be inside any of the five New York City Boroughs.
So many open discussions and so little time but no solid resolution.
As usual, our NYS legislators will ignore required action till it festers to an open sore,
