Dansville — Out of a total 678 school districts in New York State, Dansville’s budget was among the 44 that had failed May 17.
One week later, the Board of Education made an informal decision to go straight into a contingency budget, in which the state requires certain restrictions on purchasing equipment and student supplies not absolutely necessary for student education or safety; forbids non-contractual staff raises and requires the district to charge all community organizations an upfront fee to use the school building.
The Board had three options: go straight into a contingency; resubmit the same budget for a second vote; or modify the budget.
